Mesquite Wildlife Oasis

An unparalleled hands-on learning experience, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship.

In 2007, a land acquisition agreement led to the establishment of Mesquite Wildlife Oasis, designed as a wildlife refuge, trail system and educational resource. The site features two ponds that host a rich variety of species, including frogs, snakes, dragonflies, jackrabbits, javelina, coyote, bobcat, owls and quail. Now owned by RWE, the Mesquite Wildlife Oasis is surrounded by five solar farms and associated battery projects, generating enough clean energy to power approximately 115,504 homes. In 2024, the complex expanded with an upgraded battery storage system and a new solar project.

Since 2008, Mesquite Wildlife Oasis has been a crucial habitat for local wildlife near the surrounding solar fields, while also championing environmental education and sustainability among residents and students. Supported by Wildlife for Tomorrow and RWE, the program conducts 30 field trips each year. Since its inception, Mesquite Wildlife Oasis has welcomed approximately 42,500 visitors to this desert oasis, offering an outdoor experience and learning center for local schools.
