About the Program
Mesquite Wildlife Oasis offers a unique, free field trip experience to schools, providing hands-on learning in a natural setting. Our 30-day program runs on select dates from November to April.
Important: Submitting the application form does not guarantee a spot. After your application is accepted, you'll receive a link to schedule your field trip for the 2025-2026 season.
Eligibility & Scheduling
Grade Levels: 2nd - 8th grade
Group Size: Schools must have a minimum of 40 students to participate. If you have more than 110 students, you will be required to book two days of programming.
Please note, this is not the sign-up for homeschool groups. If you are a homeschooler or part of a homeschool group, please refer to the dedicated sign-up information for homeschool dates.
Scheduling: After your application is accepted, you'll receive a link to schedule your field trip for the 2025-2026 season.
Important Guidelines
Timing: Schools should arrive no earlier than 8:30 AM and must depart by 1:30 PM.
Chaperones: We recommend a ratio of 1 adult chaperone per 5 students, especially for grades 2-4. Chaperones are expected to actively engage in the learning experience.
Safety: All participants (teachers, students, and chaperones) must adhere to the Mesquite Wildlife Oasis Field Trip Rules. Students must remain with their assigned groups throughout the day. All hikes and activities will be led by Mesquite staff, teachers, and chaperones.
Leave No Trace: We operate under a "Leave No Trace" policy. Please ensure all participants dispose of trash in provided receptacles.
Responsibilities: Schools must provide lunches, permission slips, and transportation for all students and chaperones.
Weather Policy
We will proceed with programs in light to moderate rain, as long as there is no lightning. Please check the weather forecast the day before your trip. Programs will be canceled in cases of heavy rain, lightning, or thunderstorms. If your school chooses to cancel due to weather concerns, please contact Michelle at 623-633-3925. Cancellations due to weather “may” be rescheduled based on availability.
Dress Code
Participants should wear clothing suitable for outdoor activities. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are encouraged. We will not modify programs for students who are not dressed appropriately, and students whose attire jeopardizes their safety may be asked to sit out from certain activities. Mornings can be cool, so please dress accordingly.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your scheduled field trip, please notify Michelle at 623-633-3925 as soon as possible. This allows us to offer the opportunity to another school on our waiting list. While weather-related cancellations may be rescheduled based on availability, other cancellations may not.
Financial Support:
We provide reimbursement for bus expenses up to $150 per bus, with a maximum of two buses ($300 total) per school. A bus invoice must be submitted for reimbursement.
